I dont think so.

I think that UK forces have 30 years of urban conflict experience in their ranks.
The US does not.
Plus we are relatively multicultural in the UK, 60 million of us stacked into a pretty small island.

Significantly, the UK population has not been subject to the "go get them ragheads" media bombardment that has been non-stop in the US since 9/11.

If you live in the US it is a very isolated place to be as far as high quality foreign news/info is concerned.
Everything seems to be America America America.

Americas opinion, Americas will, God bless America, Long live America, Way to go America.

Anyone that spoke like that in the UK would be considered a nutter.
God bless the united Kingdom! Way to go united kingdom! Na, I dont think so.

Sandwiched between these programs are the adverts, which are hammering away at you every twenty minutes 24/7.
"buy this! Sell that! Sale starts at midnight!"

Its a real eye opener when you first see it, but can get tedious and does your brain in after a while.

They accept it because its a cultural thing, and have been born and bred in that environment.
They dont know it any other way, and most are relatively immune to the constant bombardment anyway.

The problem comes when they venture out into the real world, and bring real guns with them.

At this point you have to start thinking for yourself, and evaluating your new foreign surroundings, yourself.
Theres no more CNN/CBS to tell you how it is, and what to think.
You now have to do that stuff for yourself.

The easiest thing to do is revert to basics, dont think too much.
shoot the phucks first and ask questions later.
Not all US people are like that, a lot have a brain, but theres a lot that think the boogie man is out there.

The smart US people make a difference for the good.
That Marshall guys plan for Europe.
The general that helped Japan (Patton/Eisenhower? I cant remember.)

In a sentence. Its a cultural thing.

Eek,

You seem to be a nice guy, so I almost feel bad doing this, but your generalizations were so ludicrous that I could not help myself.

You are attempting to make broad statements about the american people and american culture, attempting to sound as if you have sooo much knowledge of our culture and so good an understanding of world history. You accuse americans of knowing little or nothing about what goes on outside the US.

YET, you don't even know who General George Marshall is? And you confuse George Patton and Dwight Eisenhower with Douglas McArthur...that general guy who helped Japan???

Like I said, I'm sorry for this because you seem like a nice kid, but for christ sakes at least have a clue about history before you start making broad statements about american culture, ESPECIALLY when you accuse americans like me of being ignorant of what goes on in other nations, while you yourself suffer from the same blinders you accuse us of having.

I try to keep it general, no point in getting bitchy.

Then you must be aware that the region does not want you there, they dont want us. Period.

Apart from the little piss-ant places that court the west to ensure their survival, Quatar, Abu Dhabi, whoever.

The bigger countries dont want to know. Saudi has banned various products, including coca-cola because of its Jewish connections, but they are still happy enough to flog Israels biggest supporter their oil.

Iran was your biggest blunder, to date anyway.
And now here you are (we are) bumbling around inside Irans next door neighbour.
You cant really believe that they want us stomping around in their country any more than the Iranians do?

Almost everything that America does, destabilises the middle east.
The Shah of Iran, Support for Saddam against Iran in the Iran/Iraq war which helped to extend that conflict.
Support for Israel, which has managed to turn almost every territory that surrounds it into a warzone, whether its Lebanon or the Palestinian territories.

All these things were/are a part of an active US foreign policy.

And now Iraq.
Hey They're back!
and its piles of dead bodies and mayhem. Again!

So if you find that they are not very grateful dont be hurt or surprised.

As far as the middle east is concerned, we are bad news.
Good news for them, is when we get back on our ships and leave for good.

The Kurds are happy to see us tho.
Im wondering who the US will favour in the longer term, them or the Turks.
